3 Years Later, Battery Storage Savings Adding Up for Jamey.

23 February 2019

We have clients contact us every day, asking if battery storage makes sense for them yet.

It’s a very interesting question, and one that is different for almost every situation. For but Jamey from Glengarry, he now has 3 years of impressive savings to justify his investment.

Jamey had electricity bills of over $1,000, making solar a great investment. But when we dug a little deeper, we found that most of that usage was in the evening, which solar wouldn’t provide much help with.

Jamey decided to invest in a 14.4kWh battery storage system with his 5kW solar array. It was a significant outlay, at just over $25k, but the proof has been in the savings.

Jamie has found that his $1,000/quarter power bill has been dramatically reduced, with the summer credits offsetting the minimal winter bill, and delivering exactly the ROI we had estimated.

With nearly 300 battery storage systems installed and monitored across the region, we are now collecting huge volumes of data on the savings. We can use this data to show you the benefits of battery storage, and importantly, to determine if it does actually make sense for your situation. Get in touch with our team to find out more.

New $1,000 Solar Hot Water and Heat Pump Rebate Now Available!

24 February 2019

We are excited to announce that the Victorian Government is now offering a $1,000 rebate for any solar hot water or heat pump system.

In a case of perfect timing, Gippsland Solar have just announced that our new revolutionary heat pump is now available, and installations are already rolling out. We have worked with our manufacturers in Japan to design a heat pump that is ideally suited to cooler climates like ours. It also to incorporates a software program that uses excess solar power to heat the water seamlessly. This means you will feed less of your excess energy into the grid, and avoid heating water at much higher electricity rates.

We are finding that many clients are opting for a heat pump instead of battery storage, effectively using their hot water service as an energy storage device. At less than $3,000* installed (replacing electric hot water, after the Solar Vic rebate), it’s also much more cost-effective than battery storage.

Check out the before and after graph from a recent heat pump installation. This client’s hot water usage went down by ~80%, from 12-14kWh per day to around 2kWh per day. And by heating their water with excess solar power (indicated in yellow), the savings are even greater!

You are eligible for this rebate if you:

  • Are replacing any type of hot water service (even an existing solar water system or heat pump), provided it is more than 3 years old
  • Earned a combined household taxable income of less than $180,000 in 2016/17
  • Are the owner/occupier of a home worth less than $3million

For more information, contact our team and we would be happy to discuss your options. You can also pre-qualify for the rebate at www.solar.vic.gov.au.c

Solar & Battery Storage Info Night

Gippsland Solar will be taking part in a Solar & Battery Storage Information Night hosted by Latrobe City Council on Tuesday August 29, from 7:00 – 9:00pm.

The event will be held at Kernot Hall, 50-70 Princes Drive, Morwell, and will give you the opportunity to hear from industry leaders Selectronic, Tesla and Gippsland Solar.

This event is very timely, with the first shipment of Tesla Powerwall 2 batteries arriving recently in Gippsland and beginning to be rolled out across the region. Topics covered on the night include:

  • The pros and cons of battery storage
  • What does it cost, and what will it save you?
  • The different battery technologies on offer
  • The expected price and technology improvements
  • Examples of existing homes that have installed storage
  • Is it possible to go ‘off the grid’?

The MC for the night will be Darren McCubbin, Chair of the Gippsland Climate Change Network.

This is a FREE event, however we do ask you to register for catering and seating purposes via Eventbrite.

New Tesla charging station – Criterion Hotel, Sale

The Gippsland Solar team are very excited to have installed Sale’s first Tesla Electric Vehicle charging station at the Criterion Hotel. This EV charging station will be powered by the Criterion’s new 30kW solar power system!

Electric Vehicle tourism is on the rise as these vehicles become more affordable, and the Cri Hotel is well placed to capture this market. Their charging station really opens up East Gippsland and the Melbourne-Sydney coastal drive to electric vehicles, encouraging increased visitation and the economic benefits that follow.

Rich in history and grandeur, the Criterion Hotel re-opened its doors in November 2013 after undergoing immense refurbishment to restore the venue to its former glory – much to the delight of locals and travellers-alike, who hold fond memories of the hotel from years gone by. The Cri offers quality accommodation, function spaces and upmarket modern Australian cuisine showcasing the best local produce.

The team at the Cri have been a pleasure to work with, so make sure you pop in for a quality feed and a beverage, and check out their shiny new system.
